The variations in the pieces of jewelry that are worn have always been designed with beautiful natural gemstones that have a lot of variations in their color, textures and compositions. Along with diamonds most commonly used for Ring Designs for different occasions and purposes, other gemstones like emerald, ruby, moissanite and sapphire never fail to show up with their spark when designed into different jewelry pieces. So in this article, a thorough discussion regarding the formation and origin of the sapphire gemstone will be discussed.

ALL ABOUT THE HISTORY OF ORIGIN OF THE GEMSTONE SAPPHIRE:

Like any other gemstone, the gemstone sapphire is also very rare to find as it takes millions of years for its form. Like the gemstone ruby, the sapphire gemstone is also formed from the mineral known as corundum (this mineral, in its scientific term, is known as aluminum oxide). It is very widely known that sapphire has the most common color, similar to that of the diamond. Diamonds, though, have color variations (which are very rare to found) but are mostly available in the crystal color form. Sapphires generally come in an elegant and beautiful colored, rich blue hue. Their rarity has made them a precious gemstone, as anything hard to find is always the most valuable.

Every gemstone is formed under specific natural conditions under the surface of the Earth. Similarly, sapphires are also formed when there is tremendous pressure under the surface of the Earth. Generally, sapphires are in blue hue color, but they come in other color variations like orange, white, pink and yellow. In another way, it can be noticed that they have a rainbow color. The designs of custom engagement rings with blue sapphire will look unique and good at the same time as sapphires as wedding rings or engagement rings holds different significance to marriages and has different significant symbolisation as well.

From ancient times people had worked hard to find these gemstones beneath the Earth’s surface when there was no development in the field of technology. The value of sapphires is more due to their durability, color and rarity. These factors also stand as major reasons for the sapphire stone’s high demand for designing it in various jewelery pieces like rings, necklaces and earrings.

The formation of sapphire is very interesting. As stated earlier in the article, sapphires are formed from the mineral corundum found in igneous rocks. Now the blue hue of the sapphire stone is created due to the presence of titanium in the corundum rock. When the corundum mineral cools down slowly, huge crystals of minerals are formed from those present within the magma. The purest form of the gem sapphire is created during the igneous rocks’ transformation; the more slowly the magma will cool, the larger the sizes of the sapphires will be.

Every two sapphire is different in their look. The reason behind this is that most often, when the magma’s cooling occurs, there is almost always a change in the environmental factors and the pressure. Due to this, every sapphire that is formed in huge chunks is always developing with a unique color and look. When the magma cools down, the condition in which it will be untouched by other elements and minerals is very rare. So this reason makes the sapphire stone rare. It is very rare to find sapphires in large sizes. Generally, sapphires are found in the barrel shape, which is longer, tapered at the ends, and quite large in the centers. After mining, sapphires can be fashioned into any cuts to get the Ring Redesigns or any pieces of jewelry. With the facets and unique cuts made on the gem, the elegance and the spark in the stone reaches the next level marvellously.

Sapphires are best known for their durability as well. Sapphire is a remarkable hard mineral at 9 on the Mohs scale, the same as moissanite or diamond. The reason behind its hardness is because of the result of short and strong aluminum and oxygen bonds. The hardness, variations in color and sparkle have made the gemstone so much prized and in demand by different civilizations and cultures worldwide.

CONCLUSION:

The deposits of sapphire are found in various regions worldwide like Myanmar, China, Australia, Kashmir, Nigeria, Nepal, Pakistan, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Madagascar. Under the Earth’s surface, sapphires are found at 6 to 18 miles. The intense pressure and heat of the rocks underneath the Earth’s surface leads to the formation of the stone sapphire. It takes millions of years for its form.
