Though UI and UX are essentially interlinked, they serve two very different purposes and causes. While the term UX refers to “user experience design”, UI as the term is used to refer to “user interface design”. Both of them are essential to employ and work as one single unit. They may seem to be identical but they serve two very different aspects and two very different roles. The definitions of UI and UX are provided below-

  • In the late 1990s cognitive scientist- Don Norman, founder of Nielsen Norman Group Design Consultancy brought in the concept of “user experience design”, where he explains it do be an experience, where all the user’s expectation is encompassed so that the even the end-user’s interaction with the institute or company is taken care of. Thus by using the mechanism of UX the users will be doing the following-

· UX designs specifically focus on the experience of the user and take into account the overall experience.

· It is with respect to the theory of cognitive science i.e a non-digital practice, that has been propounded essentially to uplift the user’s experience.

· The main idea and main aim are to provide the users with a proper user experience and uplift their grievances.

· It essentially tries to improve the interaction that exists between the company and the users.

  • While UX takes into account the “User experience” in a more diverse topic but UI on the other hand looks for more specific requirements and guidance. For example, to enhance the experience of the user, a UI designer will be specifically looking at matters like- color schemes, typography, buttons, spacing, and icons. Thus, more specifically UI refers to the following-

· UI design is directed to guide the user through a more specified product interface. It is all about enhancing the experience of the user and providing them with an intuitive experience.

· It helps to highlight the brand’s strengths and assets to ensure the end product is more comprehensive and approachable to the clients or customers.

· Specific and minute details are given out most importance.

The main difference between UX and UI are given briefly and are as follows-

UX

  • This is a human-first approach to design a product.
  • Applies to both digital and physical products.
  • Looks into a more comprehensive outlook of the product created.
  • In this, the structural designs are created
  • The product created enhances the effectiveness of the product.

UI

  • Designed purposefully to enhance the aesthetic of the product.
  • Applies specifically to digital products only.
  • It allows the users to interact with the product more comprehensively.
  • Helps to create combinations of topography, buttons, imagery, color pallets, and others.
  • Enhances the product image in a more aesthetic way.

Hence, to summarise here are the key differences between UX design and UI design more elaborately. The following points need to be taken into consideration-

· While the UX design is directed towards identifying the user problems and then solving them. UI is a platform that is dedicated to creating a more aesthetically pleasing, intuitive interface.

· The UX design serves as a blueprint and comes first. The entire demand and idea are comprehensively put together. But using the UI platform, the designer plays more importance to stuff like color and everything that makes the content more engaging and interactive.

· UI as a domain has more accessibility and can apply to all kinds of products or services but UI is specified to only digital products for enhancing their experiences.
